👋 Hi, I’m Egemen

I am a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) at Booking.com in Amsterdam 🇳🇱 where I focus on improving the reliability, scalability, and automation of large-scale distributed systems within the accommodations business unit, the core of Booking.com’s platform.

Currently, I am working on designing and building an automated deployment platform that integrates service-level objective (SLO) checks and business metric validation into the release process. This work has helped teams deploy faster and safer while significantly reducing operational overhead. I also act as a first responder and incident lead for high-severity production issues (P1s), coordinating response efforts and leading data-driven post-incident reviews to enhance overall reliability.

Before joining Booking.com, I worked at Criteo in Paris 🇫🇷, where I managed geo-distributed Kafka clusters . This system formed the backbone of Criteo’s global real-time data platform, handling massive-scale data streams and powering business-critical analytics across multiple regions.

I hold a PhD in Computer Science from University College Dublin where my research, conducted with IBM Research Ireland, focused on fault tolerance and performance in data-intensive distributed systems such as HDFS.

My background combines academic research with hands-on systems engineering. I am passionate about building resilient, observable, and self-healing infrastructure, and I enjoy mentoring engineers and sharing lessons from reliability engineering at scale.
